Statement of the Board of Directors of the Austrian Society for Contemporary Music (ÖGZM) – mica

Cultural barbarism is rampant here: The RSO Vienna, the only radio orchestra in Austria, is to be dissolved! Germany has 20 radio orchestras.

At home and abroad, many of our politicians like to adorn themselves with Austrian music and culture, but according to some, it shouldn’t cost anything. At the same time, millions are wasted on unnecessary and overpriced PR campaigns or dubious press and media products of the lowest drawer are promoted.

“Even the money for ORF doesn’t grow on trees‘ said the media minister. But unfortunately it seeps away all too often in swampy channels. . .

“It’s made by hard-working fee-payers“, Federal Minister Raab continued. We reply: Without hard-working composers, musicians, writers and other artists from the past to the present, Austria would look very desolate and sad.

With this in mind, we demand that the Austrian federal government ensure the preservation of the ORF Radio-Symphonieorchesters Wien and financing of ORFwhich ensures that it can continue to fulfill its educational and cultural mission!
