The music and culture scene in Austria rightly erupts in outcry when the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra is faced with repeated ORF drastic austerity plans.
The RSO As the only radio orchestra in the country with its diverse repertoire and unique selling point with a focus on contemporary music, it is impossible to imagine the European music landscape without it. Especially in this country we find a unique situation for young musicians with top training institutions, which are among the most important forges for young orchestras worldwide.
The RSO is responsible for a wide range of tasks in this environment, from concert activities and music education to the promotion of women and the introduction of younger generations of musicians and new audiences to contemporary music creation. In this excellent orchestra, creativity, inspiration and securing future prospects for aspiring musicians are always in harmony with each other.
Austrian cultural policy must also be held accountable: After all, why invest in music education across borders and promote top young orchestras while at the same time the only radio orchestra in the country is threatened with the end?
