Statement: China, Belarus support peaceful resolution of disputes

The statement, published by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday morning, said: “The two sides support the peaceful resolution of disputes, constructive dialogue between countries and international cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit and mutual respect.”

The statement came as part of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang’s official visit to Belarus on August 22-23.

Li Keqiang met in Minsk on Thursday with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko.

The Chinese official said that his country is willing to work with the Belarusian side to push forward the high-level development of the comprehensive strategic partnership, adding that China “stands ready to work with Belarus to firmly support each other in defending their core interests, and to remain true friends and good partners to each other.”

For his part, Lukashenko noted that the two countries “always strongly support each other on key issues concerning each other’s core interests, and that relations between Belarus and China enjoy a strong development momentum and are at an all-time high.”

Golovchenko stressed during a meeting with the Chinese guest that Belarus firmly adheres to the “one China” principle and strongly supports China’s position on issues related to Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Xicang (Tibet).
