Statement by the Gulf Cooperation Foreign Ministers regarding the attacks on Lebanon

The Ministerial Meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the escalation in the Lebanese and Palestinian territories, warning of the dangerous repercussions resulting from this escalation, the resulting threat to international peace and security, and the undermining of peace and security efforts in the region and the world.

The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council held its forty-fifth extraordinary meeting, on Wednesday, in the Qatari capital, Doha, headed by the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, and in the presence of the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries affirmed that the Cooperation Council stands by the “brotherly Lebanese” people with all its components at this critical stage, calling for the intensification of international and regional efforts to provide urgent humanitarian support to Lebanon to alleviate the suffering of civilians and protect them from any serious repercussions.

The Arab Gulf Cooperation Council stressed the necessity of implementing Security Council Resolution No. 1701, relevant international resolutions and the Taif Agreement, to restore permanent security and stability in Lebanon, and to ensure respect for its territorial integrity, political independence and sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders.

The Ministerial Council affirmed its support for the Palestinian people, stressing its condemnation of the Israeli aggression against Gaza and the West Bank, and demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, an end to the siege imposed on the Strip, and the release of hostages and detainees.

The ministerial meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council called for the immediate opening of all crossings without conditions, and to ensure the secure access of all relief and humanitarian aid, medical supplies and basic needs to the residents of the Gaza Strip, within the framework of commitment to international law and international humanitarian law.

The Ministerial Council called on the Security Council to implement its resolutions No. 2735, No. 2712, and No. 2720, calling for an immediate and complete ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of hostages and the exchange of prisoners, the return of civilians to their homes, the safe and effective distribution of humanitarian aid on a large scale, and the withdrawal Israeli forces from the Strip.
