Vienna (OTS) “The Austrian composer and music critic Walter Arlen, expelled by the National Socialists, taught in the USA, worked for decades as a music critic for the Los Angeles Times and created numerous compositions. A whole century takes shape in his life: the struggle for his own survival, the great longing for music and the triumph over a supposed fate. What courage to go your own way once morest all odds and to devote yourself to composing, what human greatness to reconcile with your old homeland. Walter Arlen did not give us his art withheld, no, he built bridges to Austria. With his works, which translated his painful memories into the universal language of music, he gave us moments of happiness and emotion. Walter Arlen was a living example of the preciousness of life and for the belief in reconciliation,” said Andrea Mayer, Secretary of State for the Arts and Culture.
