State officials suppressed demonstrations in different areas of Caracas

Caracas. Since Monday morning, July 29, there have been various protests in Caracas, rejecting the results of the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the proclamation of Nicolás Maduro as re-elected president.

According to the monitoring done by the team of Chronicle.One In areas such as El Silencio, Montalbán III, Chacao and El Valle, there was repression by state security forces such as the Bolivarian National Guard and the Bolivarian National Police (PNB). However, in the centre of Caracas, there was a presence of shock groups, who fired at protesters.

At 8:00 pm on Monday, July 29, residents of El Silencio reported that a GNB tank was stationed adjacent to Plaza O’Leary.

In El Silencio, armed civilians shot at people in the streets in the afternoon. Other residents reported the presence of officials from the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (DGCIM) in the square near the Central Bank of Venezuela and of men dressed in black, without identification.

In the Montalbán III residential area, the PNB fired pellets and tear gas at people protesting with pots and pans in the streets of the community, west of Caracas. One woman was injured in the abdomen by the pellets.

At 8:30 pm, President Nicolás Maduro said that they are monitoring the violent events that are taking place in the country.

He added that they captured a significant number of people involved in acts of violence, 80% have criminal records and 90% are in an “advanced state of drug addiction.”

“They confessed that they are being paid $150 a day,” he said.

Maduro recalled that those who engage in violent acts will be subject to the full weight of the law.

“At least five officials from the State security agencies have been attacked, some even receiving gunshot wounds in the last few hours.”

Arrested on a day of protests

The Venezuelan Penal Forum reported that as of 5:00 pm this Monday they had documented 13 arbitrary arrests.

Residents of Santa Ana, in Carapita, reported that explosions were reported in the community on Monday night. From early morning, residents banged pots and pans in protest against the results of the presidential elections offered by the CNE.

According to the victims, PNB officers fired pellets at the houses and used their weapons to damage vehicles parked on the streets of the neighborhood.

Protests in other areas

On Monday night a group of residents also gathered in the La India roundabout. Earlier they demonstrated in the El Carmen sector of La Vega,

Other areas where repression by state forces was recorded were in El Rosal, Chacao and Caricuao.

Protests

Protesters from Las Minas de Baruta, Santa Cruz del Este, Las Minitas and Santa Fe gathered at the Santa Fe Distributor.

“I want my children back, for those who have left,” said a resident, who said that Edmundo González Urrutia won in his community.

At kilometer 7 of El Junquito, people also gathered in the streets to protest, following the results presented to the CNE.

Residents of Petare, La Dolorita, La Urbina, Propatria and 23 de Enero joined these demonstrations.
