The Department of Sports Medicine that works in La Pedrera receives between twelve and fifteen queries from athletes daily. They serve high-performance athletes, have state-of-the-art physiotherapy equipment for the treatment of injuries and, in addition, they have a gym and professionals specialized in the subject.
The area was created by a joint effort between the Department of Sports of the Province and the authorities of the park to provide medical and kinesiology services to those who practice any sports discipline and are federated.
“We serve girls and boys who compete at a national and regional level as well, such as the Evita Games or the Binational tournaments; we receive the teams from Villa Mercedes and San Luis. Sometimes we even have those who play internationally, as it happens to us in the case of athletics”, explained Damián Giraudi, head of the Sports area.
The project is relatively new, since the Department began operating in October 2022. The center has equipment to provide intra-tissue percutaneous electrolysis (EPI) and resistive radiofrequency (Tecar), among other most advanced treatments and methods available. can be found today in the country.
The athletes can also make precise consultations with the sports doctor Fernando Alday, depending on the discipline they practice. “We also work together with the gym, which is run by Professor Maximiliano Farías. We do this especially for rehabilitation treatments, since athletes usually arrive with an injury and together we plan the necessary steps for them to return to train at their maximum efficiency,” Giraudi said.
The graduate said that with the equipment they have they can considerably reduce the recovery time of an athlete. He remembered the Villegas brothers, who compete at the top of international athletics. “Some time ago Tomás came with an injury from the Pan American Games; we were treated for four days and he is already training back to his level. That’s when you realize it’s worth the effort,” he said.
The intention of those who work in the specialized department is to accompany the athletes who are at a professional level and the selected ones who compete and represent the province.
