‘Saudi Vision 2030’ core future city
Pioneering the desert and planning an industrial complex on the sea
Subdivided into The Line, Oxagon, and Trogena
Global companies ahead of full-fledged order bidding
As Korean companies participate in the Neom City project, which is being recklessly pursued by Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman (37), the real power holder of Saudi Arabia, who visited Korea on the 17th, attention is focused on this project.
Neom City is a key project in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which will be transformed by Crown Prince bin Salman from an oil-centered economic structure to a high-tech manufacturing center in 2017.
Neom City, which costs 500 billion dollars (approximately 671 trillion won), is a high-tech future new city to be built in the eastern part of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea between the Saudi Arabian Peninsula and Egypt. In particular, the ideal of Neom City is to realize a self-sufficient city with 100% eco-friendly energy. It aims to build a state-of-the-art city where drinking water is supplied through a desalination plant and robots take care of logistics, security and housekeeping services.
Neom City, built on an area of 26,500 km2, 44 times the area of Seoul (605 km2), is divided into three spaces. ‘The Line’, a self-sufficient linear city with a length of 170km, which is the straight line distance between Seoul and Gangneung (bird’s eye view), ‘Oksagon’, a high-tech floating industrial complex floating on the sea with a diameter of 7km, and ‘Tro’, a super-large mountain tourism complex It’s Jenna.
The Line passes through deserts, canyons and mountainous areas to the Gulf of Aqaba, where the borders of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Jordan meet, and is built in a way that preserves the natural environment. The outer wall of the building is made of mirror-like reflective glass and is planned to generate solar power. When completed, up to 6 million people can live.
Oksagon attracts research institutes and factories of global companies. The 2029 Neom Asian Winter Games are scheduled to be held in Trogena.
Neom City originally planned to complete the first phase of the project by 2025 with a goal of completion in 2030, but it was delayed due to Corona 19, and construction began on The Line in October of last year. Starting with this year, when COVID-19 has eased somewhat, Saudi Arabia’s project orders for the construction of Neom City are expected to be placed in earnest.
