Asunción, IP Agency.- With the first Radial Shock Wave equipment, an innovative therapy is introduced in Public Health to combat joint pain, with a non-invasive treatment that produces alterations in cellular permeability, generating an analgesic and metabolic effect.
The acoustic waves generated by this therapy activate biological effects that lead to faster healing and regeneration of tissues in the long term when they are injured, thus reducing inflammation and, consequently, joint pain.
This treatment helps accelerate pain relief and restore mobility to the affected area with high levels of success, without the use of medications or sedation and without side effects.
Shock wave therapy covers a wide range of indications: shoulder, elbow, hip and knee bursitis, lateral and medial epicondylitis, various tendinitis (bicipital, patellar, aquiliana, among others), plantar fasciitis and heel spurs.
Each session lasts between 20 and 30 minutes, and between 4 and 5 sessions are needed, once a week, to achieve the expected success rate.
Regarding human resources, the hospital has 9 professionals with international certification in Radial Pressure Waves (IFSWT): Lic. Ramona Gamarra, Lic. Belén Maza, Lic. Blanca Monges, Lic. Raquel Villasboa, Lic. Vilma Fernández, Lic. . Adelira Sosa, Lic. Verena Gómez, Lic. Alicio Sánchez, Lic. Carlos Brítez.
On average, 2,900 patients are treated per month in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service.
According to the care protocol, the patient can approach with any order coming from services dependent on the Ministry of Health, not only from the Trauma hospital.
The patient who approaches with his shock wave order will require evaluation by the certified kinesiologist. All indicated patients should be equipped with their imaging studies, such as soft tissue ultrasound.
