The state funeral for the former president of Italy, Giorgio Napolitano, will take place in Rome on Tuesday. Former Federal President Heinz Fischer will represent Austria at the funeral ceremonies, which begin at 11:30 a.m. The funeral will take place in the form of a non-religious ceremony in the main hall of the Chamber of Deputies in Rome. French President Emmanuel Macron and German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier are also taking part.
Napolitano died on Friday at the age of 98. The communist was President of Italy from May 2006 to 2015. He was the first president in the history of the republic to hold office twice.
