“We will continue to support Ukraine … as long as necessary. However, this does not mean that we will continue to support them at the same level of military funding as in 2022 and 2023,” US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a press conference.
According to him, the US does not see the need to continue support at the previous level, because Washington’s goal is to help Kyiv get back on its feet and create its own military-industrial base so that it can independently manufacture and buy weapons.
“However, we are not yet on this path, which is why it is so important that Congress passes a bill for additional funding, because we have not yet reached the level where Ukraine can defend itself, relying only on its own forces,” M. Miller emphasized.
At the same time, a representative of the State Department stated that “it is absolutely clear that Russia has failed.”
“In our opinion, they cannot take Kyiv. V. Putin has not achieved and will not be able to achieve his ultimate goal of conquering all of Ukraine. We see a Ukraine that is able to stand on its own two feet, that is building its own economy, building its own army. The situation on the battlefield is going to be very difficult without additional support from the United States, so we believe that we need to continue to support them (the Ukrainians), and we believe that Congress will eventually do that,” he said.
A representative of the State Department does not believe that the war in Ukraine is currently going in Russia’s favor.
M. Miller reminded that people often forget what is the real goal of V. Putin: the complete conquest of Ukraine, removal of the Ukrainian government from power and incorporation of Ukraine into Russia. Therefore, according to him, it is important to remember what Ukraine has achieved and is still striving for.
According to him, Ukraine was able to prevent this.
“Everyone takes it for granted now, but at the beginning of the war it didn’t seem so simple.”
Earlier, the White House said it had no more money for new military aid to Ukraine until it was approved by the US Congress.
US President Joe Biden, commenting on the massive Russian shelling in Ukraine on the night of Friday to Saturday, December 29, emphasized that Congress must approve additional aid to Kyiv as soon as possible.
December 27 The United States announced the last 250 million provision of a package of military aid to Ukraine worth USD in 2023.
US President Joe Biden in October asked Congress to approve additional funding, including more than $60 billion dollars to Ukraine. But it has been stalled in the Senate because of bipartisan disagreements over securing the border with Mexico.
