Salzburg league leader Kuchl celebrated a 2-1 win in Neumarkt.
After St. Johann (4:1 in Anif), Saalfelden (6:2 in Henndorf) and Grödig (4:1 in Hof), Kuchl also made it into the State Cup semi-finals on Wednesday. The Salzburg league team narrowly but deservedly defeated the state league team Neumarkt away with a score of 2:1 (1:0).
Although Kuchl coach Thomas Hofer was without six regular players, the Salzburg league leaders were the better team from the first minute and deservedly took the lead just before the break. Neumarkt, which had previously missed a top chance, overlooked Milos Savic in the backcourt. The Kuchl striker finished dry to make it 1-0 (42nd).
No danger following compensation
When Neumarkt youngster Benjamin Bachler escaped the Kuchl defense in the 55th minute and scored the surprising equalizer, tension briefly arose. “But we were never really in danger,” explains Hofer, who celebrated Raphael Rainer’s winning goal in the 77th minute. “Despite the defeat, I am satisfied with my team’s performance,” explained Neumarkt sports director Hans Hajek following the exit in the State Cup quarter-finals. In the 1st regional league, Neumarkt, which wants to secure its return to the Salzburg league in the spring, will face laggards Kaprun away on Saturday. As the confident league leader, Kuchl has to compete once morest relegation candidate Anif on Saturday.
Sixth State Cup title for Thomas Hofer?
In mid-April, Grödig and Saalfelden as well as Kuchl and St. Johann will face each other in the State Cup semi-finals. “An exciting task, we certainly have opportunities at home,” says Hofer, who has already won the state cup five times as a coach, in a combative manner.
