Every year on February 11th, the Euroemergency Call Day draws attention to the emergency number 112 – Interior Minister Gerhard Karner visited the Vienna control center

Vienna (OTS) – “The police officers in the state control centers do professional work every day for people who are in emergency situations. This task not only requires great commitment, but above all prudence and overview,” said Interior Minister Gerhard Karner, thanking the emergency services during his visit to the Vienna state control center. The reason for the Interior Minister’s visit was International Emergency Call Day, which takes place annually on February 11th. Since 2019, there has been a police control center in every federal state across Austria. There are special control centers for Schwechat Airport and the Cobra task force. Every year, around 2.4 million emergency calls are made to the Austrian state control centers via numbers 133 and 112.

112: The European emergency number

The emergency number 112 is dialed around 150 million times a year across Europe: that is 56 percent of the around 267 million emergency calls received annually in the European Union. 95 percent of emergency calls via 112 are answered within 20 seconds. Further information regarding the European emergency number can be found at Emergency and emergency numbers in Austria and Euronotruf 112 celebrates its 30th birthday.
