The timetable must be ready on the following day (although changes may occur later). The first holidays will be at the end of October: for the fifth time, the Austria-wide Autumn holidays between National Day (26 October) and All Souls Day (2 November).
These are relatively short this year due to the fall of the two public holidays (October 26th is a Saturday, November 1st a Friday). Unlike in other years, there are no “intermediate days” to extend the holidays with school-independent days. Another disadvantage is that Immaculate Conception (8 December), namely on a Sunday.
This is then balanced out to Christmas. Since December 24th is a Tuesday this year, Monday is automatically a day off according to the School Hours Act. Christmas holidays last from 21 December to 6 January.
Semester break
Die Semester break 2025 are scheduled for February 1 to 9 in Vienna and Lower Austria. In Burgenland, Carinthia, Salzburg, Tyrol and Vorarlberg they fall on February 8 to 16, in Upper Austria and Styria from 15 to 23 February.
Easter holidays The students will have to start school very late in the coming school year, namely from 12 to 21 April. National holiday on 1 May falls on a Thursday in the coming school year – which means that the following Friday is suitable for a school-independent day and a long weekend. The central school Consideration that only begins the following week. The first day of the exam is May 6th (Latin/Greek), and it will end on May 14th (Italian).
Free in spring
The next possible long weekend is at the end of May: The first of the two Thursday holidays falls with Ascension of Christ to May 29th, the following Friday is the next candidate for a school-autonomous day. The days no longer really have the character of a holiday. Whitsun holidays from 7th to 9th June: Apart from the Whitsun weekend, they only consist of Whitsun Monday – since the introduction of the autumn holidays, Tuesday has been taught as normal (unless it is released by the school autonomously). The last holiday before the end of school is Corpus Christi on 19th June. The following Friday is another tip for a school-autonomous day.
However, this is too late for last-minute learning, at least in the East. School year In Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland, school ends on June 27th, the following week. In the remaining federal states, July 4th is the last day of school.
The Start of school The start date for the 2025/26 school year is also particularly early: in the east, students will return to the classroom on September 1st, while for everyone else it will start again on September 8th, 2025.
