Over the past two months, only two new models have appeared on the Russian car market, and both were introduced by Chery. The first debutant in March was a compact SUV Exeed LX, and now the start of sales of the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro Max mid-size crossover has been announced. It became the flagship of the Russian range of Chery, and also the first all-wheel drive model of this brand in the last six years. Latest crossovers Chery Tiggo (still without digital prefix) with 4×4 transmission were sold in 2016.
At home, this car debuted in the fall, but there it is called Chery Tiggo 8 Plus Kunpeng Edition. The all-wheel drive Tiggo 8 Pro Max is equipped with a new generation 2.0 TGDI turbo engine with direct fuel injection, which is already known from cars of the Exeed subsidiary brand and can run on AI-92 gasoline. But if the Chinese Tiggo produces 254 hp. and 390 Nm, then for Russia it was derated to 197 hp. and 375 Nm. The gearbox is a seven-speed “robot” with two wet clutches, all-wheel drive – with a BorgWarner clutch in the rear axle drive. The declared acceleration time to 100 km/h is 8.5 s, the maximum speed is 195 km/h.
On the outside, the new Pro Max variant differs from the front-wheel-drive Pro version with a redesigned front end. An enlarged radiator grille with a massive frame has “grown” with the headlights (they are the same), a new bumper has appeared. The rear light lenses have also been changed, the stern is decorated with four exhaust pipes. And the Tiggo 8 Pro Max has a different interior with two screens on the front panel (12.3 inches each) and an eight-inch touchscreen on the center console (climate control): for China, it is already not newbut appeared for the first time in cars for Russia.
If the front-wheel drive Tiggo 8 Pro is offered in four trim levels to choose from, then the all-wheel drive Tiggo 8 Pro Max is available only in the two richest options with three rows of seats. The Dreamline version includes six airbags, leather upholstery, power front seats, heated seats in the first and second rows, steering wheel and windshield, panoramic roof, LED headlights, all-round cameras, rear parking sensors, power fifth door, remote start system and 18-inch wheels.
The top version of the Ultimate, in addition, has front seat ventilation, an air ionizer, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control and a set of electronic assistants (including automatic braking and lane keeping systems). The prices, alas, are rather high, but such are the current realities of the Russian market.
