Starz Play, the video-on-demand viewing service platform, and Image Nation Abu Dhabi, launched the series “Nightmare”, the first Arabic-language work from the platform’s original productions. It is scheduled to start showing the series on the platform from Thursday, February 9th.
The events of the episodes of the “Nightmare” series take place in different times and countries in the Middle East and North Africa, and it retells the myths and fairy tales inherited from Arab folklore through contemporary dramatic plots. The series takes viewers on a journey through stories from the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Egypt. The series consists of 5 separate episodes, each of which presents a vision of the inherited story through a modern artistic vision full of excitement, suspense and terror.
The episodes of the series were filmed in the four countries, and the episodes were supervised by directors from all over the region, including Majid Al-Ansari, who is known for directing notable productions such as “Dungeon” and “Paranormal”; Hanaa Kazem, director of “Makar”; Yasser Al-Yasiri, director of the movie “122”; Ahmed Khaled, director of the movie “30 March”; Hala Matar is the director of “The Cart.” And the “Starship Entertainment” company owned by Yasser Al-Yasiri and Mansour Al-Faili assumed responsibility for the production operations of the work.
On this occasion, Nadim Dada, Vice President of Programs and Content Acquisition at STARZ Play, said: “Nightmare is our biggest production of the year, and we are excited to start showing the series across the Middle East.”
The team of heroes of the series “Nightmare” includes a number of the most prominent faces of the Arab screen, including Basant Shawqi, Khaled Anwar, Abrar Al-Hamad, Rakeen Saad, Kady Al-Qaisi and Ahmed Al-Saeed.
For his part, Ben Ross, Head of Content at Image Nation Abu Dhabi, said: “We are constantly looking for innovative projects whose implementation involves great difficulties and complexities, in order to allow filmmakers in the region to unleash high-level Arab artistic projects, and to shed light on the cultural heritage of the East region.” Middle, according to a contemporary directive vision. There is no doubt that producing dramatic works with reference to Arab myths, which constitute a true embodiment of the story’s place in the Arab conscience, would support our strategic directions and visions.
