Gun control is a topic of debate around the world. The right to bear arms is enshrined in the United States Constitution, although over the years a multitude of experts have emerged calling for a revision of the texts. Recently, President Joe Biden has begun to take steps toward tighter gun control. “Gun violence in this country is an epidemic, and it’s an international shame,” the US president said. It’s a problem, and celebrities have been talking regarding it for a long time.
Following the most recent school shooting, which took place at Robb Elementary School in Texas, where an 18-year-old killed 19 children and two adults, Matthew McConaughey took to Twitter to call on people to take action. The actor began his message by talking regarding the massacre that took place in his hometown of Uvalde: “Again, we have tragically shown that we are not responsible with the rights that our freedoms guarantee us.”
“The real take of action is for all of us Americans to look in the mirror for a long time and ask ourselves, ‘What do we really value? How do we fix the problem? What small sacrifices can we individually make today to preserve a nation, a state and a healthier and safer neighborhood tomorrow?’
Although he did not refer to weapons explicitly, he said Americans must “renegotiate our wants from our needs.” Later, he wrote “This is an epidemic we can control and regardless of which side we are on, we know we can do better. We have to do better. We must take action so that no parent has to experience what Uvalde’s parents and many others before.” They have had to endure.”
