Starfield studio design director asks people to stop asking questions because only “Todd Howard himself is allowed to speak”.

Emil Pagliarulo took to Twitter to reaffirm that he “just can’t answer 99%” of fan questions.

Emil Pagliarulo, Design Director of Bethesda Studios, a man who has worked for the company for more than 21 years, must have taken to Twitter yesterday to say that he might not in any way reveal the secrets of Starfield. This statement follows incessant online questioning which, as the game nears release, has clearly reached a fever pitch.

“I know that’s not what a (Starfield) fan wants to hear from me, but I think we need to be clear: no one other than Todd Howard himself is allowed to speak publicly regarding unreleased information regarding the game,” Pagliarulo wrote. “You have tons of questions. I understand. … I am SO humbled by your anticipation of Starfield. Seriously. It’s mind-boggling to me. This is why it pains me to tell you that I simply cannot answer 99% of your questions”.

Pagliarulo goes on to write, “I cannot share my opinions on game content; I can’t speak regarding performance; I can’t discuss…most things. I signed an NDA. I am a professional. I don’t want to get fired.” The tweet was also posted on the Starfield subreddit, where user FlatbushHaitian reacted, “He told me to leave me alone in the nicest way.”

User Titan7771 also wrote, “Honestly a very kind response to what I’m sure will be an avalanche of (odious and rude) comments.” Pagliarulo has faced some fan vitriol before, as several responses to Titan7771 report the Fallout community’s backlash to his work.

After some research, they are not wrong. A thread from regarding 6 years ago on the Fallout subreddit with nearly 9,000 votes was titled “Until Bethesda Fires/Transfers Emil Pagliarulo, Never Expect Quality Storylines Again “. Yes, it’s as bad as that. This was a response to a talk given by Pagliarulo on Fallout 4 and Skyrim, where he served as a scriptwriter and lead designer.

A polite yet firm Twitter thread seems very civilized considering what the man has endured in the past.

It’s yet another example of the struggle the Starfield community is having as the oft-delayed title looms on the horizon. Either way, there are saner things fans can do with their time than hogging contracted developers with their questions: like putting together a 1,000-page story compendium.
