Starfield: Phil Spencer wants it to be Bethesda’s most played game

Bethesda is known for its cult role-playing games, and a certain The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim still manages to make people talk regarding it 10 years following its release thanks to multiple reissues. But the next adventure of Bethesda will be done hand in hand with Microsoft, this will be Starfield, and the boss of Xbox has big ambitions for him.

Phil Spencer spoke to Stephen Totilo of’Axios and said he wanted to make Starfield “the most played Todd Howard game of all time”. Todd Howard is executive producer and director at Bethesda Game Studios, ensuring the development of Fallout and The Elder Scrolls particularly. A hell of a challenge, because in 2016, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim had 30 million copies sold. It has since been released on Switch, in VR and in a recent Anniversary Edition, Bethesda has not given back sales figures for five years, but they must be huge.

Still, Phil Spencer’s goal is not so crazy. Starfield will certainly be exclusive to PC and Xbox Series X / S, but there are many fans and the title will probably sell very well on its release on November 11th. And most importantly, the boss of Xbox can count on subscribers to the PC/Xbox Game Pass, there are currently 25 million of them, a figure that is only climbing, who are curious. Forza Horizon 5 has 18 million players and Halo Infinite more than 20 million. From there to imagine that Starfield reach 30 million players with the subscribers of the Game Pass, there is only one step. If you want to try the service of Microsoft, it costs 27,99 € for three months.
