Bethesda continues to unveil its series of videos dedicated to Starfield, a series that should sooner or later lead us to a proper presentation of the gameplay. The “Skyrime in space” is indeed still very mysterious, but which is revealed little by little thanks to the subjects tackled.

Starfield, a smooth presentation

Bethesda, which has been owned by Microsoft for many months now, began by showing us some artwork that was supposed to help us perceive the atmosphere of the game. The developers then talked regarding how they are approaching this new license, using in particular their know- to do in terms of creating universes, game mechanics, but also by integrating a large number of novelties to make Starfield “the greatest game ever made at Bethesda”.

More recently, we got a tiny glimpse of VASCO, a bipedal robotic assistant that will support players as they explore the universe. He will be able to transport things, carry out repairs, but also defend the character through defensive skills that we expect to see. Before moving on, remember that Starfield is expected on PC and Xbox Series on November 11, 2022, 11 years to the day following
Skyrim.

Music at the heart of the experience

Today, we turn to the music side, with a video dedicated to it and featuring Mark Lampert, audio director of Bethesda Game Studios, and Inon Zur, composer for Starfield. It seems secondary, but the audio design as well as the soundtrack are two crucial elements of immersion. There is no good visual atmosphere without good sound or music, except when the absence of music is a game design choice. The music also needs to set the tone of the events and places that we experience and explore.

This allows you to support an epic moment, a calmer zone, a moment of strong emotion. This is the wish of audio designers and composers, who want to give an important emotional dimension to the adventure. If you played it, think for example of the very energetic soundtrack of Mick Gordon for Doom or by piece That’s the Way It Is at the end of Red Dead Redemption II, which lend energy and a kind of uniqueness to key moments. Note also that we had a preview of the game’s soundtrack in 2019, with a medley recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.
