SouthRock, operator of Starbucks in Brazil, released this Wednesday (27), a statement confirming the closure of the rewards program as of January 31, 2024. With the change, the program Starbucks Rewards in Brazil, payment via Starbucks Card and the Starbucks Brasil app, will be discontinued next month.
Customers registered on these platforms and who have a Starbucks Card balance and accumulated stars must redeem them by January 31st, the date on which points will no longer be accepted as a form of payment at the chain’s units. Still in the notice sent by email, the company ends by thanking consumers for their trust and loyalty over the years.
SouthRock, the company that holds the rights to the Starbucks brand in Brazil, faces a delicate financial situation in the country with debts exceeding R$1.8 billion. The company even requested a request for judicial recovery, but the request was rejected by judge Leonardo Fernandes dos Santos, from the 1st Bankruptcy Court of São Paulo, who pointed out a lack of documents.
In the request sent to court, SouthRock states that on October 13 of this year, Starbucks headquarters in the United States declared the “immediate termination of the ‘Starbucks licensing agreements’. With the economic and financial crisis, SouthRock closed more than 43 Starbucks units in recent months, leaving only 144 stores open nationwide.
In case of doubts, the café has provided two channels for consumers to get in touch:
