The exchange procedure for Starbucks’ customer gift ‘Summer Carry Bag’, which was suspected of detecting harmful chemicals, has begun.

Regarding the suspicion of hazardous chemical detection, Starbucks said, “We are conducting an examination related to the allegation through a nationally authorized agency.

“According to the current law, no problems have been found, but we are investigating the specific facts and causes,” he added.

In addition, he explained that he is investigating specific details such as the sampling method and the production date of sample products regarding the test results of other institutions related to the allegation.

Earlier, in an anonymous office worker community, an article was posted claiming that a user who identified himself as an employee of the FITI Testing Research Institute (formerly Korea Yarn and Textile Testing Research Institute) “tested (for the summer carry bag) and found formaldehyde.”

However, the FITI Research Institute said, “The content of the anonymous community post is not the official position of our research institute.”

Formaldehyde is a substance with a pungent odor and toxicity, which is known to occur in various construction materials and cause sick house syndrome.

The World Health Organization (WHO) International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies formaldehyde as a group 1 carcinogen.
