Stig Asmussen, director of the upcoming third-person action game Star Wars Jedi : Survivorhinted that he was planning a third installment.
In a recent interview, the director of Star Wars Jedi : Survivor said he “always wanted to see [cette série] like a trilogy.” Clarifying his team’s approach to Survivor’s plot, he continued, “We had a pretty clear idea of the time frame we wanted Survivor to take place in, the stakes, the tone of the game, what Cal was going to be up once morest and how the crew was going to fit into it all. And there are ideas of what we might do beyond that too” (via IGN (opens in a new tab)).
Star Wars Jedi : Survivor is scheduled for release April 28 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC and opens the next chapter in the Cal Kestis story. Between lightsaber duels and Force blows, Cal will have to deal with the broken legacy of the Jedi Order as he takes on the oppressive galactic regime of the Empire.
Asmussen has always been optimistic when it comes to the series. Even before the release of the original game Star Wars Jedi : Fallen Order in 2019, developer Respawn Entertainment hinted at the possibility of a sequel. “We were already talking regarding a second installment…honestly, we were even talking regarding a sequel beyond that. And those were discussions that, when we ended that story with Lucasfilm, were akin to, ‘Well, where are we going with the second game?”
While no concrete details have emerged on what the series’ third act might look like, it’s promising to know that Respawn has looked to the future with the Star Wars: Jedi series since the early days. This indicates that we may well have a cohesive three-part story – in stark contrast to some Star Wars trilogies that we won’t name.
A good feeling regarding it
Judging from the trailers and gameplay footage, Eat : Survivor already looks like the dark second act of a trilogy. Everything from Cal’s more grizzled appearance to the more sinister tone made us draw parallels between the game and The Empire Strikes Back, the middle film within the original Star Wars trilogy.
The Star Wars Jedi game is certainly one of the most interesting and thoughtful Star Wars projects as of this writing. Much to our delight, it’s set between the rise of Emperor Palpatine and the events of the original trilogy, much like the fan-favorite Andor series.
We really appreciated the uncompromising gaze of Fallen Order regarding this dark period in Star Wars history. Cal regularly has to contend with the authoritarianism of the Empire, fend off Stormtroopers and deal with Darth Vader’s Inquisitors – tortured adepts of dark force powers, bent on slaughtering every last Jedi.
Now that Cal has established himself as a character, we can’t wait to see what Respawn will do in this new narrative space. We hope that Asmussen will be able to realize his vision for a trilogy and treat us with even more humor.
