Star Wars Eclipse: the game would not be ready to be released… but then really not

Game News Star Wars Eclipse: the game would not be ready to be released… but then really not

The first (and last to date) trailer for Star Wars Eclipse had seduced more than one and, since then, many have been waiting for more information. Nevertheless, it seems that patience is a must…

Patience be with you

At the last Game Awards in December 2021, Quantic Dream struck a blow by unveiling Star Wars Eclipsea new game set in Star Wars with an absolutely splendid trailer. Moreover, knowing such a studio on the spot, comfortable with the narration since behind Heavy Rain, Detroit Become Human or Beyond : Two Soulspromised to be frankly promising and refreshing.

Inevitably, many are impatiently awaiting news of the title, of which we do not yet know much. The problem? This one would come out in, hold on tight… 2027, or even 2028. In any case, this is what several sources to journalist Tom Henderson, well known in the industry for having laid many scoops (like on the remake of Dead Space Where Battlefield 2042, to name a few). And there would be many reasons for this very late release.

In space no one can hear you expand

Henderson thus brings back to the table what he had already declared many months ago following an investigation carried out by him: Quantic Dream would initially have difficulty recruiting sufficient personnel. By way of example, he cites the 67 positions currently open once morest the 60 three months ago and explains that the recent controversies might have slowed down recruitment.

What’s more, the engine used for Star Wars Eclipse would be an obstacle to the good design of the project: it would simply not be adapted to the concept and ambitions of the game, much wider than the studio’s previous productions which stuck to limited environments. This new software would thus integrate more open worlds, with even multiplayer and exploration components, with several planets to visit. The whole would simply not be, or hardly, adapted to the technical tools used.

But if Star Wars Eclipse is really planned for 2027, why did you announce it in 2021? Tom Henderson allows himself to add his grain of salt with two theories. The first one, is that this trailer would simply serve to motivate the crowds and encourage them to join the studio, so as to address human resource issues. The second, is that it would be used by the French firm to show off, with the aim of a possible takeover.

It goes without saying that we will take these statements with a grain of salt, since Quantic Dream has never commented on the subject publicly. Anyway, we hope that Star Wars Eclipse will live up to expectations and that if there are any development difficulties, these can quickly be reduced.
