Right now, it’s still therapeutic. It’s helpful for people and healthy. It isn’t something I’d shy away from,” Lloyd shared. He added, “I really do appreciate the time that’s been taken on us. I’m very appreciative.” When asked about potential “Star Wars” reunions, Lloyd expressed his anticipation for watching the films on May the Fourth, the unofficial ”Star Wars” holiday, with his mother. **Archyde:** Welcome, Jake. Thank you for speaking with us today.
**Jake Lloyd:** thanks for having me.
**Archyde:** You’ve been very open about your struggles with mental health and your diagnosis of schizophrenia. what made you decide to share your story now?
**Jake Lloyd:** To be honest, I’ve been feeling “pretty good” recently [[1](https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/news/jake-lloyd-health-schizophrenia-star-wars-b2673657.html)].After completing an intensive 18-month stay at a mental health facility, and now residing in a rehabilitation center, I feel ready to talk about my experience. Part of my healing involves helping others understand mental illness and reduce teh stigma surrounding it.
**Archyde:** It’s commendable that your using your platform to openly discuss these issues. Can you tell us about your treatment journey and what has been most beneficial for you?
**Jake Lloyd:** The journey has been long and challenging, but ultimately rewarding.
Hitting “rock bottom” was necessary for me to fully engage in my recovery. My mother has been incredibly supportive, especially when dealing with anosognosia, which made it difficult for me to recognize the need for treatment. Medication has been a lifesaver.it provides a much-needed cushion, allowing me to manage my symptoms and focus on healing.
**Archyde:** You mentioned your journey involved overcoming anosognosia. for those unfamiliar with the term, could you explain what that means and how it impacted you?
**Jake Lloyd:** Anosognosia is a condition where individuals are unaware of thier own illness. It can be incredibly frustrating for loved ones who are trying to help, especially since the person affected often refuses treatment. Thankfully, with time and support, I was able to overcome this barrier and accept the help I needed.
**Archyde:** You became famous at a very young age, playing Anakin Skywalker in “star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.” looking back, do you feel the intense pressure and scrutiny of child stardom contributed to your mental health challenges?
**Jake Lloyd:** While fame at a young age comes with its own unique set of challenges, my mother shielded me from much of the negative public response to my performance. She protected me from online criticism, for which I am eternally grateful. While the pressures of fame may have played a role, my struggles with mental illness are complex and multifaceted.
**Archyde:** What message would you like to share with others who are experiencing similar mental health challenges?
**Jake Lloyd:** I want people to know that there is hope, even when things feel overwhelming. Reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Recovery is possible, and there are people who care and want to support you.Never hesitate to seek the help you deserve.
