E3 is over, but the parade of trailer shows continues. Gaming guru Geoff Keighley opened his Summer Game Fest on Thursday night in front of a live audience. In addition to the appearance of well-known greats like “Alan Wake 2”, “Mortal Kombat 1” or “Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth”, there were also some new announcements with big names – including the Metroidvania platformer “Prince of Persia The Lost Crown” and a ” Star Trek strategy game.

Prince of Persia The Lost Crown

Ubisoft’s sleekly animated platformer classic, Prince of Persia, returns in a new side-view game. In the open-ended “Metroidvania” spin-off, the new hero Sargon explores the environment with fresh time powers to defeat enemies corrupted by time and to solve puzzles. Behind the game is Ubisoft Montpellier, i.e. the developers of the modern “Rayman” games and the often postponed “Beyond Good & Evil 2”. The title will be released on January 18, 2024 for the PC, all current consoles and Amazon Luna.

Mortal Kombat 1

The first game scenes from NetherRealm’s reboot of “Mortal Kombat 1” were martial. In the newly created universe of the fire god Liu Kang, well-known fighters are given new backstories and rivalries. Even Sub Zero and Scorpion have made friends here. The new “cameo partners” scurry into the ring at the push of a button like tag team wrestlers and can be freely combined with a main fighter. This time Jean-Claude van Damme was won as actor and voice for Johnny Cage. The “rollback” netcode is intended to enable smooth Internet matches, similar to “Street Fighter 6”.

Remey Entertainment’s Creative Director Sam Lake revealed game scenes from the survival horror game “Alan Wake 2” as well as details regarding the switch between the two main characters. Both FBI agent Saga Anderson and maniacal author Alan Wake deal with a murder in sleepy Bright Falls. In the trailer, Saga already proved himself once morest a resurrected killer with a deer mask. The fight begins October 17, 2023 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Spider-Man 2

“Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” was still the star of the evening on the Playstation Showcase. This time, Insomniac Games’ creative director Bryan Intihar delivered the release date on stage. The PS5 exclusive title will be released on October 20, 2023. After the PS5 spin-off “Miles Morales”, the duo will protect New York together this time from villains such as Venom, Kraven, the Hunter and Lizard, but without co-op support.

Lies of P

“Bloodborne” meets Pinocchio – this dark mixture was able to convince once more in the short trailer for “Lies of P”. This time there were fast blade fights and metal monstrosities like a shark-shaped submarine. After the presentation at Gamescom 2022, Round8 Studio and publisher Neowiz had bad news with them this time. Pinocchio’s nightmarish search for Mr. Gepetto has been postponed to September 19th. Then the game starts in “Soulslike” style for PC, PS5 and Xbox consoles. It will be available in Xbox Game Pass from the start.

Sonic Superstars

Sonic jets sideways across the screen once more, but not in pixel design, but in 3D graphics. The newly announced “Sonic Superstars” introduces a new adventure to the Northstar Islands. On the hunt for Dr. Eggman, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose can be played, even with up to four participants at the same time. They bring new abilities such as wall running, swimming up waterfalls or transformations. The developers of the successful 2D part Sonic Mania are apparently not involved this time. The Sonic Team game will be released in autumn 2023 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Immortals of Aveum

Ascendant Studios and EA like it gaudy. In the scenes from the magic shooter “Immortals of Aveum”, the colors and particles just splattered from the weapons and metal monsters in fantasy and dieselpunk style. In it, the protagonists climb onto a shiny colossus capable of transporting an entire battalion of battle mages. Behind the developer is Dead Space Creative Director Bret Robbins. “Immortals of Aveum” will be released on July 10th for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
