DeAndre Hopkins has long been among the National Football League‘s top wide receivers. But since joining the Arizona Cardinals in a trade from the Houston Texans in 2020, Hopkins has been selected to only one Pro Bowl and missed 15 combined regular season games through injury.
With the Cardinals suffering through an unexpectedly-poor 2022 season, Hopkins’ name has appeared in trade rumors. And a fellow NFL star may have just confirmed where Hopkins wants to be when the 2023 campaign kicks off.
Bound for Buffalo?
Buffalo Bills linebacker By Miller on Tuesday told reporters that Hopkins wants to join him in New York, as the Bills gear up for another run at the Super Bowl in 2023.
“You just never know until you know. Hop said he wanted to be a Buffalo Bill and you never know until you get that DeAndre Hopkins signature on a contract,” Miller said, according to the Buffalo News. “I’m not sure what the circumstances are or what’s going on with that but I would love to see DeAndre Hopkins be here and I would love to have his skill set on our offense.”
The Bills, led by elite quarterback Josh Allenwon the AFC East with a 13-3 record last season. However, they lost to the Cincinnati Bengals in the divisional round of the playoffs. The Bills have never won a Super Bowl and lost the showpiece game four consecutive times between 1990 and 1993.
Cardinals rebuilding
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are entering a transitional period following a 4-13 regular season record in 2022. Hopkins caught 64 passes for 717 yards last season but recorded only three touchdowns, his lowest mark since his rookie seson in 2013.
The Cardinals cleaned house this spring, hiring general manager Ossenfort Mountains and head coach Jonathan Gannon to begin a new era. The team will have to get by without star quarterback Kyler Murraywho injured his knee in December and is expected to miss most of the 2023 season.
