Over 150 star cricketers from around the world, including Shahid Afridi, Chris Gayle and Shakib Al Hasan, have been roped in for the Lanka Premier League (LPL) auction which started on November 14 in Sri Lanka.

According to the famous cricket website Cricinfo Carport, there are 5 teams in the league and the auction of 150 players will be held on October 1.

As per the rules, each team has to select 6 foreign players and a total of 30 international cricketers will play in the league.

Each team participating in the league will have a squad of 19 players and the number of local players participating in the league will be 65.

According to the schedule, the opening ceremony of the league will be held in Hambantota, Sri Lanka and the league matches will be played from November 14 to December 6.

23 matches will be played in the Lanka Premier League which will be played in Dambulla, Palikele and Hambantota.

It should be noted that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was not completed this year due to the corona virus, while other sports competitions including the Indian Premier League (IPL) were postponed.

Corona virus is also a major obstacle for the Lankan Premier League and the government has not yet given permission to shorten the quarantine period for any players, team management and broadcasting staff.

Officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) have said that the quarantine period for players coming from abroad to participate in the league has been reduced from 14 days to 7 days.

There are currently no reports of local transmission of the coronavirus in Sri Lanka, but quarantine conditions have been tightened to prevent further spread of the virus from infected people.
