At the start of the year, techs once once more tried to draw attention to the PS5 issue. In a tweet from 68Logic, who has owned a small console repair shop in France since 2010, remindedthat PS5 should never be placed vertically – this can lead to breakage.
The cause of the malfunction is the liquid metal used to cool the microprocessor. When the console is in a vertical position, it can seep through a special seal. In this case, the least that threatens you is banal overheating. However, in the worst case, the metal can flood the motherboard and completely kill the console.
A similar problem was reported by YouTuber TheCod3r a few months ago. In his video, he showed an unpacked PS5 that stood upright for several months. The console refused to work, and following disassembly, it became clear that the leak of liquid metal was the cause.
Although the risk of liquid metal seeping through is minimal, it is better to play it safe and put the console in a horizontal position.
