Artillery and constant bombing prevent both sides from gaining territory

Heavy artillery and aerial bombardment on the front lines in Ukraine prevent either side from gaining territory, and official and unofficial reports indicate very little movement in many areas.

The Ukrainian Army reported this Tuesday that 35 combats took place the day before and that the Russians carried out 47 air strikes. Ukraine said more than 100 settlements had been bombed.

In one of the areas where the Russians have deployed many forces, Kupiansk (north), there have been no new Russian advances, while the Russians have once more tried unsuccessfully to recover ground south of Bakhmut, where there have been some of the most intense combats of the war.

Bakhmut area: Analysts have suggested that Ukraine is trying to attract more Russian forces to the Bakhmut area to relieve pressure elsewhere.

Oleksandr Borodin of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade told Ukrainian television on Monday that “the enemy is trying to regain lost ground. We were prepared for it. They have lost really important heights. They are using firepower – planes, artillery , unmanned aerial vehicles—more than infantry.” Borodin said heavy fighting continued around a railway line south of Bakhmut, but intense mining activity was limiting progress.
The Russian Defense Ministry said Monday that Russian units had thwarted eight attacks by Ukrainians in the area, saying that “enemy losses amounted to more than 300 servicemen.”

It is not possible to verify the claims of either party.

Southern Front: There has been very little movement on the southern front. The Ukrainians claim that Russian counterattacks in the areas near Verbove and Mala Tokmachka have failed, but they themselves have not claimed any progress.

The Kherson region in the south has been the scene of intense shelling and mortar fire across the Dnipro River by Russian forces.

The military administration of the Jershon region claimed that more than 500 shells of various types had been fired once morest the part of Jershon in Ukrainian hands, and that 60 of them had fallen in the city of Jershon and its environs.

Northern air defenses: As winter approaches and Ukraine expects a new campaign once morest its energy infrastructure, General Serhii Naiev, commander of the Ukrainian joint forces, says Ukraine will increase the number of mobile air defenses in the north.

This Monday, Ukraine’s National Security Advisor Oleksiy Danilov told CNN that the country continued to need more “air defense systems to protect our infrastructure… If we talk regarding protecting critical infrastructure facilities, these are the energy facilities , the water supply and the fuel and energy complex”.
