Stade Rennais returned to training this Thursday, December 28 following a week of rest. A resumption without the internationals who will participate in the African Cup of Nations. Julien Stéphan, who gave an interview to RMC, will be able to prepare for the first match of 2024: the trip to Guingamp in the Coupe de France which will be played behind closed doors.

Christopher Wooh at the Can, Gouiri waiting

The 22-year-old central defender from Stade Rennais was called up by Rigobert Song, the Cameroon coach, to play in the African Cup of Nations (January 13 to February 11). The player will be absent at least until January 24 and maximum until February 11 inclusive depending on the progress of his team. Aboubakar Nagida, on the other hand, was not called up even though he was on the pre-list.

Also preselected by Walid Regragui, the Morocco coach, Ibrahim Salah will miss the competition since he was not included in the final list. As for Amine Gouiri, he is waiting for Djamel Belmadi, Algeria coach, to communicate his choices. He should do it before Sunday and take the Rennes striker since the latter was not present at the Breton club’s training this Friday.

Julien Stéphan discusses his comeback at Stade Rennais

The Stade Rennais coach took advantage of his week off to give an interview to RMC. He notably returned to his comeback in Brittany. When I left, I resigned by agreeing to leave 15 or 16 months of salary so I kept this bond of reciprocal trust with the owners […]. When he (Bruno Genesio, Editor’s note) made his decision known, the club officials called me immediately to find out if I was possibly interested in a return.

The latter did not hesitate long before accepting the proposal, even if he is aware that returns are always dangerous. Firstly for the person because we necessarily refer to the past. We try to be discreet and at the same time we don’t have to apologize for being called.

Guingamp – Rennes sold out

The 32nd final of the Coupe de France between Guingamp and Rennes scheduled for Sunday January 7 (2:30 p.m.) is generating excitement. Ten days before the meeting, no more tickets are for sale. Roudourou will therefore be fully booked for the derby. This has not happened since the 2018-2019 season, in Ligue 1, with the receptions of PSG and OM. More than 18,000 people will therefore attend the meeting. The Rouge et Noir will host Nice the following weekend for the return of Ligue 1 (Saturday January 13, 9 p.m.).
