Super League – YS had a golden opportunity to secure their survival once morest Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy. He missed by giving up the last 25 minutes of the match. Final result, 3-1 to Stadistes.
Stade-Lausanne-Ouchy were beaten 3-0 three weeks earlier at the Municipal Stadium and had shown all the signs of a team that no longer believed in it.
In fact, Yverdon Sport started the game better than Lausanne, even creating the only two chances in the first half. First on a back ball that found Aimen Mahious, but the Algerian striker was blocked (9th), then during a magnificent collective movement, which ended with a strike from Kevin Carlos following a hook to eliminate his Cerberus. The ball was perfectly deflected by SLO’s Vallorbier goalkeeper, Dany Da Silva, who returned to the game following being injured (15th).
There wasn’t much else to eat in a first period where the Stadistes showed nothing and Yverdonois seemed content with the point of a draw, which was enough for their happiness.
Things only started to liven up in the last 25 minutes of the game. SLO were awarded a penalty on one of their rare occasions, due to a late intervention from Anthony Sauthier, which the referee saved for a second yellow on the spot.
Paul Bernardoni was responsible for saving the draw by deflecting Alban Ajdini’s effort for a corner. The North Vaudois joy was short-lived, however, as Rayan Kadima opened the scoring with a header from the ensuing corner. Emotions would finally get the better of them.
It took just three minutes for YS to equalize, thanks to a very fine gesture from Christopher Lungoyi, who eliminated the opponent on his control, and then served Kevin Carlos, who scored his 13th goal of the exercise, to return to level with the top scorer in the Superliga, Zan Celar from Lugano.
It wasn’t over: In the 75th minute, Liridon Mulaj gave the Lake Geneva team the lead with a shot from elsewhere, taken 25 meters from Paul Bernardoni’s goal. It is clear that the match had completely changed the dynamic.
The Lausanne players hit the nail on the head, once once more through Liridon Mulaj, at the end of the game. Enough to maintain a small hope of getting back to GC and hanging on for SLO.
For YS, it will be a matter of trying, this time, to finish the job at Letzigrund on Tuesday evening, once morest GC. Nine points separate the two teams with three games left in the championship.
