Former Minister of Sports and Leisure, Serge Nkonde Chembo, spoke out after being accused in the Martyrs de la Pentecôte stadium spoliation case.
For the former head of Congolese sport, these are the mechanisms put in place, in particular to enable the maintenance of sports infrastructure.
“I learned with dismay that I was allegedly behind the dispossession of part of the Martyrs stadium. This is not dispossession at all but rather a rental as is the case with the Tata Raphaël stadium for example. It is not catastrophic, the contract is very clear, the stadium has tenants all around, private ones. Even at the Tata Raphaël stadium, there is a TOTAL station and a GG Mart Supermache which are tenants of the Ministry of Sports. Contracts signed by my predecessors. What does this have to do with the CAF FIFA approval? We need to work instead of creating buzz on social networks,” he said.
As a reminder, the current Minister of Sports and Leisure, Didier Budimbu, terminated the contract with the buyer and suspended construction work on a hotel and a service station, which, according to him, could compromise the approval of the Martyrs stadium.
The contract extends over 15 years for 6,000 US dollars per month. 10 months have already been paid, but not into the Congolese state account.
