WASHINGTON.- The Democratic delegate from the Virgin Islands in the United States House of Representatives, Stacey Plaskett, starred before the cameras of MSNBC in what appeared to be a slip, saying that former US President Donald Trump “should be shot” while discussing the former president’s handling of classified documents during a live broadcast last Sunday.
“That Trump not only has the codes, but now has the classified information for Americans and can take it out and share it at his residence with anyone and everyone who visits should terrify every American,” Plaskett told the outlet.
“He needs to be shot,” he said before trying to quickly correct himself and adding: “stopped.” Apparently, the policy was misphrased due to the similarity of these words in the English language. However, the interview with MSNBC generated a flurry of criticism once morest Plaskett.
“I HAVE TO REMOVE HER!”
The video immediately began to circulate on social networks and several Twitter users not only took the comment literally, but also called for his dismissal.
“Imagine the outrage if a Republican said this regarding a Democrat,” conservative broadcaster Steve Guest tweeted. “Don’t you hate when your mouth says what you really think?” wrote WorldStrat Corporation Chairman Jim Hanson. “This was not a mistake. She must be immediately removed from Congress for this!” urged another user.
Plaskett has a history of strong opposition to Trump, having served as impeachment manager in the case once morest the former president related to the assault on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, collects the NY Post. Despite the Democrat’s efforts, Trump was acquitted following the second impeachment trial in February 2021.
CHARGES AGAINST TRUMP
The former president was indicted last week in federal court in Miami on 37 counts for allegedly keeping classified material at his Mar-a-Lago residence, refusing to turn it over to the FBI or the Justice Department for more than a year.
This is the second time the Republican leader has been indicted on criminal charges so far this year. Trump has denied wrongdoing in both cases and has insisted that the allegations once morest him are politically motivated.
However, the accusation does not prevent Trump from continuing with his campaign ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
