Local Arts Organizations Awarded Nearly Half a Million in Grants
A Boost for St. Petersburg‘s Thriving Arts Scene
A lifesaving lifeline for St. Petersburg’s vibrant arts scene flowed through City Hall recently, as nearly half a million dollars in grants were awarded to local arts organizations. The town’s Arts Advisory Committee diligently reviewed 38 applications, ultimately recommending funding for 37, showing the city’s unwavering support for the arts.
This crucial funding comes at a vital time for the arts, particularly after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed state funding for the arts earlier this year. Recognizing the critical economic role that the arts play in the community, the city stepped up to ensure these organizations could continue their work.
“We should all be very thankful for everything they do, because they keep our city special. And the arts keep our city special,” said council member Lisset Hanewicz, emphasizing the significant impact arts have on the community.
This commitment fosters a flourishing cultural environment, allowing numerous organizations to continue their impactful work.
