St. Louis beats the Whitecaps 3-1 and continues to amaze in MLS

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Miguel Pérez scored late in the game as St. Louis City beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 3-1 on Saturday, continuing to surprise in his MLS debut season.

Eduard Löwen scored following 10 minutes, to reach four goals in the season. Tristan Blackmon scored on his own goal in the 45th, as City went 2-0 at half-time at half-time.

The Canadian side closed in on 83 minutes when Brian White took a pass from Julian Gressel and scored for the fifth time this season.

Pérez scored his goal in the fourth minute of injury time, to score for the first time in his fledgling career. The 18-year-old midfielder netted his goal in his 11th appearance, including five starts.

The St. Louis team reached 25 points, occupying second place in the Western Conference, one unit behind the Seattle Sounders, who beat the New York Red Bulls 1-0 on the day.

The Whitecaps are eighth with 17 points.

The Eastern Conference leader is Cincinnati who beat the Colorado Rapids 1-0. In third place is the New England Revolution, who drew 3-3 once morest the Chicago Fire, with an agonizing goal from Jozy Altidore.

Elsewhere, Toronto beat DC United 2-1, assisted by Lorenzo Insigne on goals by Deandre Kerr and Kosi Thompson. The Philadelphia Union came from behind to beat New York City FC 3-1, with a brace from Argentina’s Julián Carranza in stoppage time.

Paraguayan Iván Franco scored his first career goal as the Houston Dynamo came from behind to beat Austin 2-1.

In addition, Atlanta United drew 1-1 once morest Orlando City; Minnesota United tied for the same score once morest Real Salt Lake, the same as Dallas once morest the San Jose Earthquakes; Montreal beat Inter Miami 1-0, and Charlotte also beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0.
