St. Kanzian, Krumpendorf: Vacationers kept thieves in check

A 64-year-old man from the Spittal district drove his car to Sankt Kanzian in the night from Sunday to Monday and parked in a wooded area. At around 4 a.m. he stole an unlocked bicycle from the parking lot of a hotel staff house and rode it to a nearby guesthouse. He entered it through the back door, went to the office there and searched it for cash. The owner of the house (45) was woken up by the noise and noticed the man she did not know. Together with her husband and two holiday guests who had been summoned, the 64-year-old was prevented from escaping and was held until several police patrols, including a service dog patrol, arrived. The sneak thief was temporarily arrested and taken to the Klagenfurt prison following being questioned.

Change of location: On Monday shortly before 11 a.m., a 65-year-old owner of a holiday guesthouse in Krumpendorf filed a complaint following she had come home and found an elderly man in the guesthouse’s yard. He said he was looking for a room. Immediately followingwards, the woman discovered that cash and a wallet and its contents had been stolen from the office of her pension. After a detailed description of the person, the man was found a little later by a police patrol at a grocery store. The stolen money was in his possession in the said denomination, and the woman was able to recognize him when he was compared. The man, a 55-year-old Croatian, did not confess. He is shown.
