Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati said she would coordinate with the newly appointed Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Hadi Tjahjanto regarding the resolution of the targets for the Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) case. The BLBI case is currently being handled by the task force.

“Later we will coordinate with the new coordinating minister,” said the Minister of Finance at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Thursday (7/3).

BLBI is funds disbursed by Bank Indonesia to commercial banks during the 1998 monetary crisis with an amount of around 144 trillion. The number of banks receiving BLBI funds is around 48 banks. As reported, the realization of the return of state assets from the BLBI case only reached IDR 34 trillion from a total estimate of IDR 111 trillion.

Previously, Hadi revealed that the BLBI problem also involved the execution of land belonging to the obligator. He promised to coordinate to complete it.

The government has also extended the working period of the BLBI task force. President Jokowi has signed Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia (Keppres) Number 6 of 2021 concerning the Task Force for Handling State Claims for Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance Funds. With this Presidential Decree, the Director General of State Assets of the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) as Chair of the Task Force for Handling State Claims for Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance Funds (BLBI Task Force), inaugurated the BLBI Task Force Working Group (Pokja) and Secretariat, in June 2021.

Meanwhile, the BLBI Task Force was formed to handle and restore state rights in the form of state collection rights for remaining state receivables from BLBI funds and property assets. The working period of the Task Force has a deadline of December 2023 to hunt down 48 obligors and debtors of BLBI funds. In accordance with the mandate of the Presidential Decree, the Task Force must be able to execute debts of IDR 110.45 trillion from obligors. However, the list of assets registered during the implementation of the BLBI is still scattered.
