Sri Lankan batsman Kamindu Mendis equaled Pakistan legend Javed Miandad’s world record by making the fastest start to a Test career.
Sri Lanka broke several records during the first Test of the two-match series in Sylhet. Most of the records included Dhananjaya De Silva and Kamindu Mendes who became the third pair of teammates to score two centuries in the same Test match.
Mendes scored 102 in one innings at No. 7 and 164 at No. 8 in the second innings to become the first batsman to score two centuries at the bottom five positions.
In the second Test at Chittagong, Sri Lanka set another world record for the highest total (531) without an individual century. Kosal Mendis top scored with 93 runs while Kamindu Mendis remained unbeaten with 92 runs.
On his Test debut, Kamando Mendes scored 61 in his only innings at Galle once morest Australia in 2022. The twin centuries in the Sylhet Test took his career total to 327 runs following three innings.
He is third on the all-time list behind ‘Tip’ Foster’s 355 and Lawrence Rowe’s 336.
Now, following his unbeaten 92, Mendes’ career total stands at 419 following four innings. He equaled the tally of Javed Miandad who started his career with 163, 25 not out, 25 and 206 runs in a fortnight in October 1976.
