Sri Lanka on the way to Pakistan; Opposition signs no-confidence motion once morest government

Colombo: Opposition has signed a no-confidence motion once morest the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa-Mahinda Rajapaksa government as the crisis in Sri Lanka continues. The no-confidence motion was signed by the United People’s Force (SJB), the main opposition coalition.

The resolution was signed by regarding 50 members of the SJB.

Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa has taken to Twitter to express his displeasure.

Sajith Premadasa tweeted, “We will not back down without seeing change,” sharing photos of himself signing the resolution.

Currently, the SJB is waiting for more opposition parties to join the resolution.

Before presenting the resolution in Parliament, the SJB needs the support and signatures of 40 MPs from various opposition parties.

Opposition parties have stated they will not run in the by-elections.

Earlier, a cabinet minister in the Sri Lankan government resigned. Among those who resigned were Namal Rajapaksa, the son of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The statement added that the new cabinet would not include members of the Rajapaksa family. Opposition groups called for the beleagured PM to resign.
