Square-Enix is a publisher with many world-famous franchises and a Just Cause title was planned for mobile for years. Let the fans hold back: this one will not finally see the light of day.

The choice of weapons

If Square-Enix does not lack particularly cult Japanese franchises – we can cite Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Kingdom Hearts or NieR – the firm has also been established in the West for quite some time. Well, not always successfully since it has also sold some of its flagship IPs to Embracer Group such as Tomb Raider or Deus Ex, but it still has a few other interesting names in its portfolio.

In the heap, we can thus point the finger at Just Cause, a series started in 2006 and intended as a totally unbridled GTA-like which puts all the permissiveness: it’s quite simple, you can do almost anything in this explosive sandbox thanks to a crazy arsenal of which the famous grappling hook is undoubtedly the most powerful icon.

Cancellation for just cause

While Just Cause 4 was released five years ago, we learned in 2020 of the start of a brand new episode for mobile: Just Cause Mobile was therefore a true open-world with a AAA budget on smartphones.

We can even say that the developers were ambitious with the desire to offer an ultra-complete experience with a single-player campaign, four-player online co-op… and finally, 30-player multiplayer.

We must believe that these objectives were ultimately unachievable or in any case, that they definitely cost too much: Square-Enix has confirmed the cancellation of the development of this Just Cause Mobile.

It is with sadness that we announce the end of development of Just Cause Mobile. As of July 3, 2023, the game will no longer appear in online stores. It’s never easy to announce a decision of this nature, especially to our fans who have been waiting for the final version. We sincerely appreciate your support.

Because yes, an early access had all the same had time to see the light of day, which will therefore never result in a final iteration. End of the trip, everyone gets off.
