On Saturday, Sudan’s Ministry of Health announced that the cholera epidemic has spread in many states in the country, especially in the eastern states of Kassala and Gedarif, with 354 confirmed infections and 22 deaths.

Cholera is an acute infection caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with Vibrio cholerae bacteria. The disease causes diarrhea and severe dehydration, which can lead to death within hours.

According to statistics from the World Health Organization, from the beginning of the year to July 28, 26 countries around the world reported more than 300,000 cholera cases and more than 2,300 deaths.
