Spy x Family Anime: Release Date, Trailer, Info

The Spy x Family anime is an adaptation of the eponymous manga, by Endo Tatsuya. The work is still being published in Shounen Jump + and by the publisher Shueisha in Japan, with a total of 8 volumes available. In France, it is translated by Fujimoto Satoko on behalf of the Kurokawa publishing house. At the time of writing these lines (early April 2022) 7 volumes are available in French. Each is sold for €6.90 and the books are intended for an audience aged 14 and over (moderate violence).

As indicated in the synopsis, the work immerses us in the daily life of Twilight. He is the greatest spy in the world, very clever, very intelligent and who knows how to adapt to all circumstances. It is through his eyes that we follow the story and very quickly meet his adopted daughter Anya and his wife Yor. One of the strengths of the manga is that each protagonist has a marked personality, the universe simulates a kind of East Germany during the Cold War and grabs us in each chapter.

Author Endo Tatsuya wields the art of humor very skilfully which he subtly incorporates in many situations, even tragic ones. The expression of the characters, the development of their thoughts, everything is clearly told to the spectator and pushes multiple situations to the absurd. Even the very great Twilight is no exception to the rule.

We also appreciate the secondary characters who always come to bring precious additional ingredients to the plot: whether it’s Yuri Briar, Becky Blackbell or Damian Desmond, they are well thought out and surprising. They are and will always remain in the background of our beloved family, but a word had to be said regarding them.
