SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – ‘Tis the season of joy, as the community comes together to help people in need.
Many of the city’s homeless might have a warm meal amongst friends today at downtown’s Black Sheep Restaurant and The Salvation Army’s Harbor House.
”I had no way to cook my meal today. Everything’s wet. So I wouldn’t of had a meal today,” said Joshua Fox.
From noon to 2 p.m., the Black Sheep restaurant opened its doors to feed people in need.
“Any other day, I probably wouldn’t have gone to Black Sheep, but for this, I got out. I walked all the way from Trafficway.”
The menu included a cold or hot drink, burger and fries, and a memorable experience.
“I don’t think they thought regarding, you know, one day I’m going to grow up and be homeless. You know, none of us would do that. You know I’m fortunate to have what I have. Why not give?” said the owner of Black Sheep, Mike Jalili.
Others who decided to give back were Salvation Army’s Harbor House, and the meals make all the difference on a day like Christmas.
“Definitely makes the spirits higher. Instead of depression, you know well, I mean, it makes me happier because I got a full belly and don’t have to worry regarding it,” said Juston Black.
He says it’s encouraging to know people took time away from their families to help others with none.
Black has a message for those going through hard times.
“Just because you’re at the bottom doesn’t mean you have to stay at the bottom. I look at it as the only direction to go is up,” he said.
