The whole was complemented by lyrical songs from Podlasie’s latest album “Zagrajże musiciano”, also available on the largest music services: Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, Amazon Music and others. With dance, energy and humor, the band members invited the audience to the Bielany forest, which was once again “swarmed with May Day people” after regaining independence.
Melodie tanga i foxtrota
On the stage you could see shtayers, polka waltzes, and hear tango and foxtrot melodies popular in the interwar period, combined with well-known and liked melodies.
– “Kinematograf na Bielany” is a dance and music show in which music and dance accompany images of pre-war Warsaw, in addition to hits, there are also sports accents related to the establishment of the Central Institute of Physical Education, later the Academy of Physical Education. For many reasons, this combination fits into the identity and character of the group and the university, taking into account the sports DNA of the dancers and their creators – says the artistic director and choreographer of the Podlasie Song and Dance Ensemble at AWF Marcin Bochenek.
Podlasie Triptych The Mystery of Korobeczki
He adds that the dance folklore of Podlasie is an interesting page that was written a long time ago, and its content intrigues in many different ways. – The triptych is a reference to the course of events, the passing of time and the seasons. The title of the show refers to “korobeczki”. On the one hand, it is a woven basket, which means a straw basket, a woven straw box commonly used in Podlasie, on the other, it is a dance to a lyrical melody, with symbolism referring to works related to folk crafts – says Marcin Bochenek. He indicates that the themes of rituals and dance folklore of the Bug River population were an inspiration for the choreographic images of the show. Against this background, dances and songs of Podlasie, which were passed down from generation to generation, were presented.
Marcin Bochenek was responsible for the direction and choreography, Przemysław Marcyniak for the music, compositions and arrangements, and Marek Chmiel for the vocal preparation.
The Song and Dance Ensemble “Podlasie” of the Academy of Physical Education, Branch in Biała Podlaska, is an ambassador of Polish culture in the country and abroad. Since 1970, he has been participating in prestigious and international folklore festivals. Its activities are mainly based on the popularization of dance. He has educated many instructors and cultural animators, and the importance of this long-term work is constantly emphasized by students and graduates who are involved in the development and promotion of native culture.
