Sprain Brain bats for ‘Roots & Herb’

Sprain Brain’s ‘Roots & Herb’ Showcases Authentic Reggae Vibes

From Farm to Studio: A Lifelong Connection to Nature

Sprain Brain’s new track, ‘Roots & Herb,’ is more than just a song; it’s a testament to a lifestyle. The title track off the 14-song Roots & Herb Riddim compilation, the song beautifully captures the essence of Sprain Brain’s upbringing and deep-rooted connection to both farming and music.

“Roots an’ herb is a from birth thing. From wi a guh school an’ grow wid wi granny, shi a tell yuh sey fi pop off piece a limb from the lime tree, or di grape tree or orange tree. Wi grow up in a rootsical way, suh it flow out inna di music,” he said.

Hailing from Clarendon, Sprain Brain (real name Jeffrey Campbell) was raised in a family deeply entrenched in agriculture. As a professional farmer himself, he cultivates a variety of vegetables—pak choi, carrots, lettuce, and okra— on his own farm. While his hands are often soiled with earth, his heart beats to a reggae rhythm.

Early Influences and Reggae Roots

Sprain Brain’s musical journey began at a young age, with his uncles serving as his first musical mentors. They would often perform renditions of songs by reggae legends like Garnet Silk and Professor Nuts, planting the seeds for a lifelong passion. His love for reggae blossomed further, influenced by powerhouse artists such as Sizzla, Spragga Benz, Beenie Man and Cham.

This latest release marks Sprain Brain’s debut collaboration with veteran producer Michael Coburn, known for his work within New York City’s vibrant reggae scene. Coburn, who has previously collaborated with notable artists like Ky-Mani Marley, Courtney Melody, and Ras Shiloh, saw the perfect fit in Sprain Brain for the Roots & Herb Riddim project.

Living the Message: Healthy Eating and a Connection to Earth

For Sprain Brain, ‘Roots & Herb’ isn’t just a catchy tune; it represents a way of life. It’s a tribute to his roots, both literally as a farmer and figuratively as a reggae artist deeply connected to his cultural heritage. The song promotes a message of health and wellness through a natural, plant-based lifestyle.

“Wi naah sey wi perfect, but wi try wi best to uplift healthy eating,” said Sprain Brain.

The Roots & Herb Riddim compilation is a testament to the enduring power of reggae music to connect people, inspire, and promote positive messages. With Sprain Brain’s authentic voice and Coburn’s masterful production, the album promises to resonate with fans who appreciate the true essence of reggae: positive vibes, conscious lyrics, and a deep connection to nature.
