Spotify experiments with playlists activated with tokens

Streaming music platform Spotify is working with some blockchain projects Web3 to test a new function of «playlist activated through tokens» that allows certain token holders to connect their wallets and listen to a specific list of types of music.

The service is available to owners of the Fluf, Moonbirds, Kingship and Overlord community tokens., as announced by various parties. Playlists will be constantly updated and will only be available to community members via a special URL during the three-month trial period.

However, only Android users in the US, UK, Germany, Australia and New Zealand will be able to use the feature. Hopefully the music platform will expand the feature to the rest of the world in the near future.

SPOTIFY WORKS WITH WEB3 PROJECTS TO TEST THE NEW FEATURE

In a tweet sent Wednesday to its 47,000 followers, Web3 media and gaming giant Overlord claimed that owners of its lizard-themed Creepz non-fungible token (NFT) project can link your Web3 wallet to Spotify to access community-curated “Invasion” playlists from the project.

However, Spotify claimed in response to Overlord’s tweet, saying,

“Glad to ‘explore’ with you!”

The NFT Group KINGSHIP from Universal Music Group also revealed that it had put together a tokenized playlist that included songs from Led Zeppelin, Queen, Missy Elliott y Snoop Dogg for NFT holders.

All it takes to access this Spotify playlist is a Kingship Key Card NFT. Kingship indicated that this pilot is exclusively accessible to Android users in the US, UK, DE, AU, and NZ, in line with what Overlord had said.

In response, NFTX’s Apoorv Lathey, the lead developer of the protocol, tweeted a screenshot of the pilot demonstrating how to access Kingship’s adapted Spotify playlist step-by-step.

According to their instructions, you first need to use the Spotify app to find the playlist you want to listen to. Once selected, you can click the play locked button at the top.

A pop-up window will then invite you to link your portfolio to Spotify. The ones currently supported are Zerion, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, Ledger Live, and Metamask. Choose your wallets from the list provided, then click “continue”, “I agree” and connect them to Spotify.

Once this is done, the playlist will reappear and all music tracks will be accessible on the platform, as long as you have the corresponding tokens.
