Spotify has stopped manufacturing Car Thing, a device that allowed to connect the music application in streaming to the unit USB of a car, with an exclusive interface for its use.
The company began testing this product a few months ago as an alternative to Pioneer and JVC-Kenwood branded car device connection support, which was deprecated in mid-March.
This device was mainly intended for users with older carssince Spotify currently works with applications such as Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.
Specifically, it gave this device, which has a touch screen, physical controls and voice recognition, to some of its users subscribed to Spotify Premium so that they might test it in their cars.
Now, the streaming music and podcast production and distribution company, which has presented the financial results corresponding to the second quarter of the year, has announced that it has discontinued this product.
In statements collected by Engadget, a Spotify spokesperson has alleged that the company has made this decision due to “several factors”, among which were included low demand and problems in the supply chain.
Despite this recall, Car Thing’s existing units will continue to function and it will list already-manufactured devices for $49.99, up from $89.99 at its regular price.
