“Sports Moderator and Father Defies Homophobic Hate: The Inspiring Story of Olivier Borer”

2023-05-11 16:44:00

Instead of fan mail, there was wild abuse for Olivier Borer (41).

The SRF sports moderator has been a father for six months. He and his husband gave birth to their son, Naël Yunus, to a surrogate mother in the United States. “We were there when the little one was born in the hospital,” revealed Borer in an interview with Nau.ch. “One cannot put such a miracle into words.”

But some may not begrudge the little family luck. Borer has to listen to homophobic sayings and comments once more and once more. The new father recently even published a particularly bad email on Instagram.

With the subject “Homo”, the sender raged: “You probably raise your son as gay as possible and abuse him.”

Olivier Borer is shocked. According to his own statements, the 41-year-old was considering filing a complaint. He then replied to the person via email.

Will he take more rigorous action once morest gay hatred in the future? “I will continue to not allow myself or my family to be denigrated, insulted or covered with hate,” he explains to Nau.ch.

Nevertheless, Borer is convinced that dialogue is the right way to make society “more open, tolerant and understanding”. The sender of the hate mail has since apologized to the 41-year-old.
