Sporting Portugal – Olympique de Marseille (0-2) / OM notes: Harit – Sanchez, what a duo!

PAU LOPEZ: 5

Faced with a team reduced to ten then to nine, the Marseille goalkeeper was only very little called upon. He had a stop in two stages to make on a strike from Trincao (37th) and a somewhat delicate intervention on a cross (47th) where he did not take the slightest risk.

  • In short: Very quiet evening.

CHANCEL BUILDING :

Some inaccuracies in the revival. But nothing to say for the rest. Vigilant to control the depth (25th, 45th + 4), he knew how to exceed his function as a defender by participating in the offensive game. The Congolese was rightly rewarded for his initiatives with a brilliant opening, at the origin of the second Olympian goal.

  • In short: Always essential

ERIC BAILLY : 6,5

He immediately gave a communicative serenity, whether in the recovery (2nd, 5th) or in the duels (17th). His reassuring presence extended to the air domain with a well-felt intervention at a key moment just before the break (45th). Much less in demand after the break, he managed his defense without worry. Only downside, a warning for a foul on Nuno Santos (43rd).

  • In Brief: A Boss Match

Replaced by Samuel Gigot (64th)

LEONARDO BALERDI: 6

Its placement has sometimes been random. But what generosity. Balerdi contributed considerably to collective control by reaching for his opponents very high to prevent balls from coming out, most often wisely (59th). A notable activity to lend a hand to Nuno Tavares on the side, without neglecting the axis with a well-felt intervention just before the break (45th + 2).

JONATHAN CLAUSS : 5

He endeavored to control his corridor without taking too many risks, even in numerical superiority. The French international, however, stood out with a few dangerous climbs (29th), including one with a good cross for Amine Harit (56th). Physically, he gave no sign of worry after missing the game against Ajaccio through injury.

  • In short: Not the usual relief, but OM did not suffer from it.

Replaced by Issa Kaboré (64th)

VALENTIN RONGIER : 6,5

It only took him a few minutes to settle technically. Behind, the former Nantes player spoke about the accuracy of the game and his placement to reign in the midfield. Always available, he brings precious fluidity to the Marseille game. The numerical superiority allowed him a few offensive outings, with in particular a resumption of the left foot at close range which did not find the frame (66th).

  • In short: A strong link, as usual.

JORDAN VERETOUT: 6

There was a lost ball which put his team in danger (15th). But other than that, Veretout made a very clean copy. Always well placed, precise in his passes, he even allowed himself a few projections forward with a shot on target from 20 meters (45th + 1) and a cross which put the Sporting defense in panic (85th). He could have taken more risks in the transmissions, but the scenario of the match did not impose it.

Replaced by Pape Gueye (87th)

NUNO TAVARES : 5

He was heckled by the Portuguese public and this may have played on his performance. Nuno Tavares made unusual technical errors, in particular on a situation where he could present himself alone against the goalkeeper (38th). He did not offer this attacking impact which normally characterizes him, but he was impeccable defensively, and decisive in a hot situation against Gonçalves (42nd).

  • In short: A tone below his teammates.

MATTEO GUENDOUZI: 5.5

Announced in the attacking trio, the French international finally evolved between two positions, that of torchbearer and striker on the right side. He sometimes had a legitimate difficulty in positioning himself and finding areas to be served by his partners. Which partly explains why Guendouzi didn’t have his usual impact. But that did not prevent him from being decisive with a converted penalty, not without a bit of success (20th). And to collect a largely avoidable yellow card for a voluntary nudge (8th).

  • In short: He adapted somehow.

Replaced by Cengiz Ünder (64th), author of two off-target strikes (75th, 83rd).

“The strong man of OM is Tudor”

AMIN HARIT : 7,5

He delighted. The Moroccan international first caused the penalty to open the scoring with a lot of selflessness and a sense of sacrifice, provoking the expulsion of Ricardo Esgaio. He then offered the goal of the break to Alexis Sanchez on a set after a perfectly felt call and a quality cross (31st) and could have offered himself a double if his header had not fled the frame (69th). By his catch of the ball, his technical quality, his percussion (26th) and his vista on the orientation of the game, he was a permanent poison for Sporting.

Replaced by Dimitri Payet (72nd), author of a very nice strike as soon as he came into play (73rd)

ALEXIS SANCHEZ : 7

Still as impressive by his activity, his ability to press tirelessly and to multiply the calls. Alexis Sanchez displayed all his panoply, with precious stalls between the lines (23rd), dangerous strikes (24th, 26th) and inspired passes (69th). He fulfilled his role as technical leader perfectly. And, above all, the Chilean was decisive in overtaking his defender to score Marseille’s second goal (31st).

  • In short: The one who pulls OM up.
